Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
Diop is by the worst defender I've seen in a hammers shirt. Panic's as soon as he's under the slightest pressure and has no physical presence in the box whatsoever. The fuck he made leading to their penalty was dire & the header he gave straight to them mid 2nd half for their main chance was dreadful.

Moyes has a big problem in this area - for me its equally as important as securing Lingaurd.

Other than that, absolutely brilliant display again last night. Moyes is going to become a manger right up there with Johnny Lyall and thats some compliment.

The people of Lowestoft are often fond of inbreeding too.

Confidence player, not the biggest communicator and hesitates.

Reminds me a bit of John Stones and some of the mistakes he made at young age. He's not turned out bad and I think Diop will become a solid defender at a Europa or Champions League club. Not giving up on him. I think its odd how some others mistakes are forgiven but certain players come in for criticism. Thought Diop did a great job second half. Headed plenty away and won tackles.

I am not sure if bravery and aggression can be taught. It was the Burnley game a couple of seasons ago when 2 little dinked crosses to the back post to Woods/Barnes left Diop smashed into the net along with the ball

He has all the tools and can head the ball when he wants to as shown by a few key goals he has provided us.

So when he seems to get bullied all the time, my guess would be he is second guessing himself leading to hesitation and bad technique.

Yarmouth, that's bollocks.
Diop is a very good defender in a poor run of form. Conversely Dawson is a very average defender on a decent run of form. It happens in sport.

Diop needs a confidence boost, that is all

Re: Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
My feeling he is suffering a real lack of confidence.
Time and again he passed back to Fab as he just didn’t have it in him to find an outfield player. There was fear there which has come from some very mediocre passing of late.
How players get over that, he has to believe in himself. Hopefully he will build this in time, but would say in certain areas at the moment he seems quite fragile.
Hope the lad gets through it.

While the criticism might go a bit far, it's not like it's completely unjustified, and it's not just a case of someone not being flavour of the month. Defenders in particular often go through long bad patches and then come good again, eg Ogbonna. Look at England players like Stones and Shaw. A few years ago they were both vilified as being expensive flops and look at them now.

Re: Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
Not so many seasons ago, plenty seemed to think Ogbonna was over rated, Antonio was just full of huff and puff, now they are deemed critical players for us.

Cresswell and Arfur have also had plenty of critics at different times, maybe its just Diops turn?

But to question how he made it to being a proffesional footballer is just a joke.

In any field of work there are weaker individuals that differ on a daily basis. If you get rid of the weaker one do you then get rid of the next weakest one and so on ?

We always seem to have at least one player who a certain section of the fan base will criticise and biker about, even when we are riding high in the table, winning games and all the players, even the one being singled out are giving 100%

If Noble had played then odds on there would be some not happy with him, as he didnt play no doubt they will say thats why we won!!!

Issa is a young man in a foreign country representing our football club,

he needs our support to be at his best, and if we want a successful club it is our responsibility as team members to get him to believe in himself and us.

Considering that centrebacks don't peak until they're 30+, he has massive potential.

He looks a bit nervy these days, but lots of players lose confidence for a while before they pull themselves back together. Lingard is a perfect example.

But even given that, he's been playing pretty well. He hasn't made the sort of clangers that Dawson and Masuaku have made in recent weeks, yet neither get threads started about them.

Re: Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
Out of the 4 senior Cb's we have he is quite a bit younger than the rest. Diop is only 24 and the rest are all 30 + or so.

Also, a lot of his last few years here have been playing in relegation battles or with a manager who didnt care about defence at all.

I think in a few years time he could be immense. It would be a shame to lose him to another club who will get the best version of him.
